Wallen Finishes Strong at BYU Ping Cougar Classic

The University of Wyoming men's golf team carded the lowest round of the day with a 285 (-3) during the final round of the BYU Ping Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah. The Cowboys finished the tournament on the Riverside Country Club with a tally of 868 (+4), which is the lowest three-round score since Sept. 9, 2013, at the USAF Gene Miranda Invitational in Colorado Spring, Colo. The Cowboys finished 6th in the 11-team field. The Pokes were led by sophomore Ryan Wallen after shooting a 212 (-4), tying him for third place. Freshman Quintin Pope finished the tournament with his career best of 69 (-3) for a tally of 230 (+15).

"The team played well today and I was very happy with the effort," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "I was proud that the team had the best round of today and was the only team under-par."

Wallen was UW's top finisher after firing a final round of 70 (-2) for a total score of 212 (-4). He tied for third in the 60-man field for his seventh career top-25 finish. Junior Kamrin Allen followed just three strokes behind with a 215 (-1), tying him for 14th place. Allen notched his 10th career top-25 finish and shot a last round of 71 (-1). Freshman Drew McCullough carded a 222 (+6) for the tournament tying him for 36th place.

Redshirt freshman Arron Lickteig, golfing as an individual, fired a last round of 74 (+2) and tied for 41st place. Freshman Quintin Pope shot his career best in the last round with a 69 (-3) and a total score of 230 (+14). Rounding out the Pokes is freshman Glenn Workman shot a scorecard of 231 (+15) and tied for 54th place.

Colorado State won the team title with a commanding lead and final score of 853 (-11). BYU's Jordan Rodgers won the tournament with an impressive total of 211 (-5).

The Cowboys will head to the Mountain West Championship in Tucson, Ariz., to conclude their season.
