First Round Results
The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team opened the spring season Friday hosting the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The field that featured 24 teams and 128-golfers saw the Cowboys finish the first 18-holes at 303 (+15) finishing the opening day in 20th place.
"The tournament got off to a great start with a great field with terrific conditions and weather," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "This is a premium collegiate event with an outstanding field."
The Pokes were led by freshman Glenn Workman, as he turned in a 72 (+2). He sits tied for 50th place. Fellow freshman Drew McCullough ended the day at 75 (+3), as he is tied for 62nd place. Sophomore Ryan Wallen and redshirt freshman Arron Lickteig also finished strong finishing the first round tied for 85th with tallies of 77 (+5).
"I'm thrilled that I saw a lot of good things from our guys," Jensen said. "This is a good young group that has had a few good days of work and for our first tournament of the spring, it shows a big upside."
Freshman Quintin Pope turned in an 83 (+11), as he sits tied for 125th place. Senior Cameron Lindell, who is playing as an individual carded a 91 (+19) for the first round.
No. 15 Texas Tech leads the field after the first round with an impressive 281 (-7). No. 2 Oregon is second at 285 (-3). UC San Barbara's Zach Smith leads the field after firing a 67 (-5) on Friday.
The Cowboys return tomorrow morning with an 18-hole round slated to start at 8 a.m. MT.
