The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team moved up the standings on the second day of the Denver University Ron Moore Intercollegiate Saturday. The Cowgirls are tied for ninth in the 12-team field at 627 (+51). UW shot a 311 (+27) for the second round on
par-72, 6,427-yard Highlands Ranch Golf Club.
"We played quite a bit better today, but the hole locations were very tough," Wyoming head coach Josey Stender said. "I was pleased with our overall effort though."
The Cowgirls were led by sophomore Taylor Dorans in the second round, as she carded a 77 (+5). She is tied for 35th place in the 75-golfer field at 156 (+12) with junior Kathleen Kershisnik and freshman Sarah Hankins. Kershisnik tallied an 80 (+8) in the second round. Hankins, playing as an individual shot a career-best round of 73 (+1).
"It was awesome to see Sarah go out and rebound from yesterday and shoot her career-low today," Stender said.
Sophomore Mackenzie Barrie is tied for 41st place at 157 (+13), after a round of 77 (+5). Senior Samantha Stancato and Klara Castillo are tied for 51st place. Stancato turned in a scorecard of 78 (+6) for the second round. Castillo ended the day at 80 (+8). Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Gibson tallied a 79 (+7) on Saturday, as she is tied for 58th place at 160 (+16).
Kansas State holds the top spot after two rounds at 583 (+7). Long Beach State's Kassidy Teare is the individual leader with a score of 142 (-2).
The Cowgirls continue action at the Denver University Ron Moore Invitational tomorrow morning.
