MARICOPA, Ariz. -
University of Wyoming senior Brent Baylon made the most of his winter break by finishing tied for ninth at the inaugural Saguaro Amateur last weekend at Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. Redshirt junior P.J. Thomas and freshman Arron Lickteig also played as unattached amateurs in this year's field.
“I was proud of the way we played in a great field and it was great to see a solid effort from Brent, he really played well,” UW head coach Joe Jensen said. “It was just a great event to get our kids out during the holidays and get them some experience.”
The 54-hole event was played at the home of the Cowgirl Classic in April and featured 108 amateur golfers from 46 universities throughout the United States. The tournament was founded by Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen and Colorado head coach Roy Edwards.
Baylon, a native of Arizona, shot 212 over three rounds played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. He recorded a 73 in the first round, followed by a 70 on Saturday and impressive 69 on Sunday. Lickteig finished tied for 92nd place at 237 (77-78-82). Thomas ended play tied for 97th place at 240 (83-83-74).
