Wyo Swimming & Diving Results
The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams wrapped up their trip to the Windy City with a split in the Flames Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Cowboys (4-1 overall) downed host UIC 229-67 and fell to No. 32 Northwestern 161-137. The Cowgirls (2-1 overall) also picked up a win over the Flames by a score of 220-80 and fell just short against No. 32 Northwestern 159-141.
"It was a great meet today and I was very proud of our kids," UW head coach Tom Johnson said. "We kept the meet very tight with a great team and had many chances to win the meet."
The Cowgirls scored two impressive wins in the relay events against Big Ten power Northwestern. UW won the 200 medley relay at 1:44.70 with the team of senior Morgan Hartigan, sophomore Molly Coonce, junior Claudia Carlson and junior Melanie McDonough. The 400 freestyle relay team made up of Hartigan, Carlson, freshman Karissa Dahlquist and McDonough won the event with a time of 3:27.34.
Hartigan also added an individual win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.94, as her time is the third-best in school history. Carlson won the 100 butterfly event with an impressive time of 56.64.
The Cowboys were led by junior Adam Kalms, as he won the 200 freestyle at 1:37.56 and the 100 freestyle at 44.54. Kalms was also a part of a win in the 400 freestyle relay with Ethan Griffel, Ryan O'Leary and Jeff Frey. Sophomore George Eglesfield won the 200 butterfly at 1:48.66, while Jayce Calhoon won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.18. Sophomore Ryan Nelson rounded out the Cowboys afternoon with a win in the 400 yard individual medley at 4:00.83.
Senior diver Derek Campbell shined on the 3-meter springboard recording a career-best and pool record with a score of 379.65, as he earned a win in the event. His performance in Flames Natatorium was the fourth-best 3-meter dive in school history.
"We had some great concepts and a great experience today," UW diving coach Yahya Radman said. "Derek did a great job against some of the best divers in the Big Ten."
The Cowgirls return to action next Saturday in Corbett Pool as UW hosts Mountain West rival Boise State at noon.
