The University of Wyoming track and field teams earned six combined dual victories Saturday in the Fum McGraw Quadrangular.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls each went 3-1 in the dual-format scoring event and each program defeated Colorado, Northern Colorado and Air Force.
Cowboy results
Freshman Aaron Derner was first among collegiate athletes in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:35.49, and Nick Ekel was right behind him in third, 15:36.42.
Senior Taylor Kelting was sixth in the 1,500-meter run, 3:55.94; followed by sophomore Caleb Her Many Horses in seventh, 3:59.02.
The throws crew had what UW throws coach Paul Barrett called a "solid" day, as junior Joe Plante and freshman Paul Thomas went 1-2 in the discus among college participants.
Plante's mark of 174-11 was a season-best distance, and Thomas' throw of 171-11 was a personal best and 10th in Wyoming history. Two throwers were 1-2 among collegiate athletes in the hammer throw as well, as Plante hit 186-7 and junior Mark Sparks was right behind with 183-9.
Junior Henry Ferreira was first in the javelin, tossing it 186-10 to win the event.
Cowgirl results
Junior Katy Hall was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.64, while sophomore Candace Wollert was third in the 400-meter dash (56.95). Sophomore Kirsten McKen was second in the 800-meter run, crossing the line with a time of 2:19.08.
The women's 4-by-400-meter relay team of Wollert, Andrea Klimowski, Natalie Hurst and McKen was third (4:03.76).
Senior Ashley Hutchinson and junior Mollie Dahl were second and third, respectively, in the shot put, and Hutchinson was fourth in the discus, 148-11.
Junior Anna George was first in the javelin, tossing it 134-10; while freshman Holly Page was fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:44.41, just missing the all-time top-10 list.
"Quite a few kids made some improvements, but a few have to improve their fitness level and their competitive instincts," UW assistant coach Randy Cole said.
Texas Relays
Senior Jeremiah James did not record a distance in the triple jump Saturday in the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, to wrap up UW action.
