Two University of Wyoming track and field student-athletes won events Saturday in the UNLV Track Classic, hosted by UNLV.

It was the first outdoor meet of the season for the Cowboys and Cowgirls.

"Overall, it wasn't too bad," Wyoming coach Don Yentes said. "We got some things done."

The Cowgirls won one event, as sophomore Erin Kirby was first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.49. The Cowboys got in on the action, too, when senior Jeremiah James won the triple jump, leaping to a mark of 51-0 ¾. James won despite not having jumped in the event in nearly 12 months.

Sophomore Jenna Mann was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.42 seconds), while Kirby was eighth, 14.74.

Senior Lindsey Simmons was second in the 400-meter dash, 58.11. Junior Diana Long was second in the 400 hurdles ( 1:01.52), and sophomore Taylor Gardner was fourth, 1:03.47.

Freshman Samantha Kee was fourth in the 200-meter dash, 25.02.
