2011 Fall Academic All-Mountain West Honorees
The Mountain West announced Thursday its Academic All-Conference teams for the five fall sports sponsored by the Mountain West. The University of Wyoming had 40 student-athletes honored in the fall sports of: men's cross country, women's cross country, football, soccer and volleyball.
Wyoming's 40 Academic All-Conference honorees for the fall tied UW for third among the eight member institutions in the Mountain West. Boise State had 53 student-athletes honored, TCU had 41 and Wyoming and New Mexico each had 40.
Leading the way for Wyoming was the Cowgirl Volleyball team, which had 11 individuals achieve Academic All-MW followed by men's cross country, which had 8 student-athletes named Academic All-Conference. Wyoming's football, women's cross country and women's soccer teams each had seven individuals named to the team.
Of Wyoming's 40 student-athletes honored two were graduate students, seven were seniors, 12 were juniors, nine were sophomores and 10 were freshmen.
The average cumulative grade-point-average for Wyoming's 40 honorees was exactly 3.50. Two Cowgirls and two Cowboys received perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point averages.
The criteria for selection to the team are: student-athletes must have completed at least one full semester at their university, must have achieved a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 or higher and must have been a starter or significant contributor to their team.
