The Shane Shatto Memorial and Remember the Wyoming Eight Run/Walk will be Saturday, Aug. 9, in Douglas.
The 5K race is named in honor of the eight University of Wyoming cross country runners who were killed by a drunk driver in September 2001. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the National Guard Armory in Shatto's hometown of Douglas. All participants will receive a T-shirt and be eligible to win a variety of door prizes. The race begins at 8:30 a.m.
All proceeds benefit the Shane Shatto Memorial Scholarship, given annually to a graduating high school senior.
In addition to Shatto, Kyle N. Johnson of Riverton, Morgan McLeland of Gillette, Nicholas Schabron of Laramie, Kevin L. Salverson of Cheyenne, Justin M. Lambert-Belanger of Timmons, Ontario, Cody B. Brown of Hudson, Colo., and Joshua D. Jones of Salem, Ore., were killed in the head-on accident on U.S. Highway 287.
