DENVER (AP) -Adam Tanner had 21 points and five rebounds to lead Denver to a 76-65 victory over Wyoming Tuesday night.
Tanner was 4-for-5 on 3-pointers for Denver (2-1), which was 12-of-21 from beyond the arc. Kyle Lewis added 16 points on 8-for-8 free throw shooting for the Pioneers.
Brandon Ewing led Wyoming (1-1) with 20 points. Brad Jones had 16.
Wyoming leads the series 97-46 and is 36-32 in Denver.
Denver connected on seven, 3-pointers and Tanner scored 11 points as Denver took a 35-24 halftime lead.
Tanner hit his first four shots, two of them 3-pointers, as Denver jumped to a 21-5 lead. Wyoming's guard tandem of Ewing and Jones accounted for four points in the eight-minute stretch.
The Cowboys got back in the game, outscoring Denver 15-3, over the next seven minutes. Jones, Tyson Johnson and Joseph Taylor scored four each to close the gap to 24-20.
Denver closed the first half by outscoring Wyoming 11-4 as Tyler Bullock sank two, 3-pointers in the final 4:30.
Tanner began the second half as he began the game, hitting a pair of 3-pointers. Nate Rohnert added seven points to extend Denver's lead to 52-32 with 16:01 left.
Wyoming managed only a field goal by Taylor and six free throws in the same four-minute span.
The Cowboys trailed 60-38 with 12:21 after Joe Jackson's 3-pointer when they started heating up. Ewing scored nine points and Jones converted a rebound basket to pull them within 65-55 with 5:36 remaining.
Lewis converted two free throws and a layup after steals to widen Denver's lead back to 69-55. Wyoming made one last run, getting as close as 73-62 on baskets by Ewing and Jones with a minute left.
