Cowboys Fall to Nebraska In First Round of Rainbow Classic

HONOLULU (AP) - Aleks Maric scored 22 points to lead Nebraska to a 73-58 win over Wyoming in the first round of the Rainbow Classic Wednesday night.

Jay-R Strowbridge had a career-high 14 points for Nebraska (7-2) and Charles Richardson added 13.

Brandon Ewing led Wyoming (8-3) with 17 points and Eric Platt added 13.

Nebraska led by as many as 12 with 6:24 remaining in the first.

But Wyoming closed out the half on a 12-4 run to narrow the Husker lead to 30-26 at the break.

Wyoming pulled to within two early in the second half and then Nebraska used a four minute, 11-3 run to open up a 52-38 lead with 10:41 to go.

The Cowboys would get no closer than eight the rest of the way. Nebraska held Wyoming, who had been averaging 79 points per game, to a season-low 58 points.

Nebraska advances to the championship game on Friday night against the winner of the Hawaii-San Francisco game.
