UW Track and Field Competes In First Day at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -

The University of Wyoming track and field teams competed in the first day of the 2005 Drake Relays, Friday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Cowgirls 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of seinors Jessica Fox and Shauna Smith, sophomore Amanda Hopper, and freshman Sharon Larrier, placed third with a time of 1:35.11. This time would also put them in the UW all-time record book with the fastest time in school history. These same women also competed in the 4x400-meter relay prelimanaries where they qualified for the finals with the fastest time of 3:35.06.

The lone Cowboy to compete today was sophomore Tyg Long in the shot put, who was unable to mark with his three attempts.

Five UW track and field athletes will continue competition tomorrow at the Drake Relays. The rest of the team will compete in the New Mexico Invite, tomorrow in Albuquerque, N.M.
