University of Wyoming junior Blake Jackson and Colorado State senior Loree Smith have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Blake Jackson - University of Wyoming
Junior * Jumps * Cheyenne, Wyoming
Jackson won the triple jump at the Air Force Invitational, Jan. 21-22, with a leap of 51'3.25", the third-best jump in MWC history. It was also a NCAA provisional qualifying jump. In addition, he placed third in the long jump with a mark of 22'3.75" as the Cowboys finished third in the field of 10 teams.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Loree Smith - Colorado State
Senior * Throws * Julesburg, Colorado
Smith won both the shot put and the weight throw at the Air Force Invitational as the Rams finished first in a field of 12 teams. Smith broke the Colorado State record in the weight throw with a heave of 70'-8", also the second-best mark in MWC history. She won the event by over 11 feet with the NCAA automatic qualifying throw. She also threw 51'-11.75" to win the shot put by over 2.5 feet.
