The University of Wyoming Cowboy basketball team (1-0) opened their 2004-05 season at home on Friday night by downing the Alcorn State Braves (0-3), 77-63.
UW head coach Steve McClain used the depth of his bench to keep continuous pressure on Alcorn State, forcing 25 turnovers and coming up with 11 steals.
The Cowboys were led by 16 points each from first-year starters Steve Leven and Justin Williams. Senior center Alex Dunn pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to go with his nine points. Jay Straight dished out seven assists fueling the balanced Wyoming attack.
The Braves' Delvin Thompson contributed 12 points in a losing effort. Almaad Jackson also pitched in 9 points for Alcorn State.
Wyoming shot 41.9% from the floor, while Alcorn State shot 34.4%.
