LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming broke open a tight game with a 19-8 run duringa 10-minute stretch of the second half to beat Middle Tennessee State 84-63Saturday night.
Joe Ries led the charge for Wyoming (2-1) with 16 second-half points, andfinished with a career-high 29 points. Mikel Watson and Jay Straight added 14each for the Cowboys.
Middle Tennessee (1-1) was led by Tommy Gunn with 18 points, while StevenJackson added 16 for the Blue Raiders.
The lead changed hands four times in the opening half before Wyoming took a39-37 advantage into the halftime locker room.
The Blue Raiders closed within 43-42 with 18:20 remaining on a bucket fromGunn, but David Adams sank a short jumper and Reis followed with two baskets tohelp the Cowboys build a seven-point advantage, and the rout was on.
Straight hit a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left to account for the finalmargin.
Outrebounded in the first half, Wyoming crashed the boards hard in thesecond 20 minutes and ended with a 37-31 advantage, led by senior Mory Correa'snine rebounds.
