The University of Wyoming wrestlingteam opened its 2002-2003 season Friday at the annual Intrasquad Tournamentat the WarMemorial Fieldhouse.
A total of 15 matches were wrestled giving the Pokes their first liveaction of the season outside of practice. The meet also gave the Wyomingcoaching staff a good look at the depth of most of the weight classes forthe season. The tournament featured ten ranking matches and five out ofweight matches.
Wyoming had strong performances from their upperclassmen, junior KevinKessner (197), junior Andrew Shuler (149) and senior Brad Steele (Hwt.) allwon both of their matches. Sam Wendland (184 - freshman) also won twomatches on the night. Other Cowboy wrestlers posting victories were juniorBlake Gunter (141), freshman Jimmy Moore (165), freshman Josh Prevost (174)and freshman Trevor Murray (165).
The Cowboys will be back in action on Nov. 15 when they host the BoiseState Broncos at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose Gym.
