Laramie, Wyo. -- The University of Wyomingclosed the curtain on the Bite/Pacific Coast IntercollegiateTournament Friday with a final round team score of 314 tomove up one spot in the final standings.

The Cowboys finished the two-day tournament with a 54-holescore of 926 to finish 18th overall and leap ahead oneposition after opening the final around in 19th place. SanDiego State won the tourney with three-round team total of866 strokes on La Purisima Golf Course, home to the 1996 PGAQualifying School Finals.

"The guys played hard," Cowboy coach Joe Jensen said."It was tough weather, windy, and the course played long.But the kids played hard."

UW senior and Sheridan native Mike Urbatchka led the wayFriday, firing a final round 75 to move up 11 spots andfinish tied for 27th place with a total of 224 strokes."Mike played good. He's put a couple solid tournamentsin a row together," Jensen said.

Cowboy sophomore Mike Mezei wasn't far behindUrbatchka's pace, checking with a total of 226 afterFriday's final round 77. "He played a pretty goodtournament," Jensen said. "He had a lot of goodholes."

Freshman Matthew Brunk posted a final score of 238,classmate Jonathan Shuss shot a three-round score of 241 andjunior Kurt Kowaluk was one stroke behind at 242. JasonHigton of Pacific University fired a final round 74 to winthe tourney with a four-under score of 212.

The Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate was hosted by theUniversity of California-Santa Barbara and played at LaPurisima Golf Course, which measure 6,603 yards and playedto a par of 72.
