Wyoming Places 14th out of 23 Teams at Tucker Invitational: University ofWyoming senior David Hearn shot a three-round total of 223 (+7) placing himin a tie for 43rd to lead all Cowboy golfers at the William TuckerInvitational, held at The Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., onFriday and Saturday, Sept. 15-16.
As a team, the Pokes shot a combined team score of 901 (+37), toplace 14th in the 23-team field. Brigham Young University won thetournament with a 54-hole team total of 861, three under par. The Cougarsedged second-place UNLV by two strokes. The victory for BYU was its secondconsecutive at the Tucker Invitational.
Billy Harvey of BYU took top individual honors with a three-roundtotal of 207 (-9). UNLV's Calvin Kupeyan finished in second with a score of211 (-5).
UW senior Jake Hunter and freshman Mike Mezei both finished tied for69th with a score of 227 (+11). Mike Urbatchka placed tied for 75thshooting a 228, and Kurt Kowaluk finished tied for 81st with a score of 230to round out the scoring for Wyoming.
"The guys never really seemed to get too comfortable on the greens,"said UW head coach Roger Prenzlow. "It was tough to practice for the greenshere because they are so big. We missed a lot of puts we should have hit.However, the guys bounced back today and we played a little bit better thanwe did on Friday."
Wyoming defeated Mountain West Conference opponents Air Force,Colorado State and Utah.
The Cowboys next tournament is the Colorado State Ram Invitationalin Fort Collins, Colo., Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26.
