The Wyoming Cowgirl golf team tiedfor 19th out of 25 teams on Tuesday at the BYU Dixie Classic played in St.George, Utah. Wyoming senior Jordan Lintz recorded her seventh Top 25finish of the 1999-2000 season, placing 11th in a field of 128 golfers.
Wyoming tied for 19th with the University of Denver. Both UW and DUposted 54-hole totals of 962. Oklahoma State won the team title with athree-round total of 887. The individual champion was Maria Boden ofOklahoma State, who fired a four-under par total of 212. Lintz's eight-overpar total of 224 tied her for 11th place with Erin Rogers of San Francisco.
"We shot our best round of the tournament in the final round onTuesday -- a 319," said UW women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "Our top fourplayers each played a steady, consistent tournament. We shot a first roundtotal of 321. Then we came back with a 322 in the second round and finishedwith a 319. I was impressed with the way we finished. We're playing bettereach round out. I hope that by the time the conference championship comesaround later this month, we'll be playing our best golf of the season.
"Jordan (Lintz) had a great tournament. She really got into a goodrhythm on Tuesday. She was very consistent, hit the ball really well offthe tee and in the fairways. I know she didn't score as well as she'dhoped, but once again she was right there in the Top 15.
"Jessi (Santesson) played two very strong rounds, and had anothergood tournament. Kim (Nissen) played a very consistent tournament, andKelli (Hanson) put up two good rounds for us that we needed, from a teamstandpoint."
Oklahoma State entered the tournament ranked No. 9 in the nation.Other ranked teams included No. 15 ranked New Mexico, which finished thirdat the Dixie Classic at 896, and No. 23 ranked Missouri, which finishedfourth at 919. The second-place team was Texas Tech, finishing eightstrokes back of OSU at 895.
The tournament was played at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George,Utah. Each of the three rounds were played on separate courses at Sunbrook.The first round was played at The Point (5,834 yards, par 72). The secondround was played at Woodbridge (5,887 yards, par 72) and the final round wasplayed at Blackrock (5,927 yards, par 72). The Sunbrook GolfCourse will also be the site of the 2000 Mountain West Conference Women'sGolf Championship on April 24-26.
The Cowgirls return to action on April 8-10 at the Idaho VandalInvitational in Moscow, Idaho.
