With a two-under par round of 70 onTuesday, Wyoming senior Jordan Lintz takes a four-stroke lead intoWednesday's final round of the New Mexico State Roadrunner Invitational golftournament.
Lintz's round of 70 was the best of the tournament through tworounds, and followed an opening round 72 by the senior from Rapid City, S.D.She nearly posted a 69 in Tuesday's round, but a par putt on the 18th holelipped out. Lintz's two-round total of 142 places her at two-under par forthe tournament -- the only golfer with a sub-par total entering Wednesday'sfinal 18 holes. She leads Amelia Moses of Missouri by four strokes. Fiveother golfers are tied for third five strokes back.
Lintz was not the only Cowgirl to post a great score on Tuesday.Junior Jessi Santesson, from Worland, Wyo., shot her second consecutiveround in the 70s with a 77 on Tuesday. She shot a first round 79.Santesson is tied for 34th at 156. The Cowgirls moved up four spots in theteam standings, vaulting from 16th to 12th place in an outstandingtournament field. Wyoming will tee off the final round with a 633 teamscore. Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 596.
"This tournament field is as good as it gets, and it makes ourteam's performance through two rounds that much more special," said UWwomen's golf coach Jill Johnson. "Jordan (Lintz) is really in a grooveright now. She is hitting the ball pretty much anywhere she wants to, andher putting has been exceptional.
"Jessi (Santesson) is playing outstanding golf also withback-to-back rounds in the 70s.
"The girls are looking forward to finishing up this tournament andthe fall season on a strong note tomorrow."
The New Mexico State Invitational is being played on the UniversityGolf Course in Las Cruces, N.M. The course measures 6,117 yards and playsto a par of 72. The tournament format included one 18-hole round on Monday,one on Tuesday and the final round on Wednesday.
