The University of Wyoming Cowboys shot a 36-hole total of 585, nine-over par, on Monday, March 29 to place them eighth at the Southeastern Louisiana University Mardi Gras Invitational. The tournament was scheduled for a final 18-hole round on Tuesday, March 30, but the final round was rained out. UW sophomore David Hearn shot rounds of 69-71 for a 36-hole total of 140, four-under par, and tied for sixth place.
Campbell University won the team title with a 10-under par total of 566. Georges Plumet of Campbell won the individual title with a 36-hole score of 137, seven-under par. Wyoming's Hearn finished just three strokes out of first place.
"We're disappointed we didn't have the opportunity to play another round today," said UW men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "We were in a position to move up three or four places in the team standings on Tuesday, but the weather didn't cooperate.
"I also would have liked to have played one more round as we only have two more regular-season tournaments prior to the WAC Championship the first week of May. It would have been good for our team to have another competitive round under our belt."
The Mardi Gras Invitational was played on the Oak Course at Beau Chene Golf and Racquet Club in Mandeville, La., which measures 6,725 yards and plays to a par of 72.
