The Cowgirls went 1-1 in their WAC season opening games, January 7 & 9, as they defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane by the final of 76-63, but fell to Rice, 76-49. Both games were played in Laramie, Wyoming.
Against Rice, Wyoming was led by senior forward Jenny Lazzeri, who had her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Lazzeri was 5 of 13 from the field in 31 minutes of play. Also, junior guard Taran Stapp had 11 points and two steals in the victory. The Cowgirls were once again plagued by turnovers committing 34 on the night.

In the second game of the weekend, the Cowgirls defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 76-63. The Cowgirls were led by senior center Rebecca Tomlin, who had a season high 18 points and added seven rebounds. She was six of nine from the field in 29 minutes as a starter. Senior forward Jenny Lazzeri added 14 points and six rebounds in the victory. Wyoming shot 49% from the field and 40% from the three-point line. They are now 5-8 overall, and 1-1 in the conference heading into this week's games versus TCU and SMU.
