The Wyoming tennis team (11-11 overall, 3-2 MW) swept its first round match 4-0 to begin the 2016 Mountain West Championship over the Colorado State Rams (5-15, 0-6 MW) on Thursday night.

"The players were disciplined on the court today with what we needed to do," UW head coach Dean Clower said. "We have a quick turnaround as we will need to get ready for tomorrow's quarterfinal match. Like I told the team a couple of weeks ago the streak starts then and we have now three in a row."

The Cowgirls got off to a quick start in the match by taking the doubles point. The team of Magdalena Stencel and Nastya Tokareva defeated Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter, 6-1, followed by a 6-2 win from the freshmen combination of Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg beating Emily Kilbow and Celine Voss.

In singles action, Wyoming made quick work of the Rams needing only three matches to win the match. Tokareva won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, against Kilbow followed by Stencel with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Laia Hernandez Soler. At the second spot, Dorottya Jonas clinched the match with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Aina Hernandez Soler.

Wyoming will be back in action tomorrow against the third seed UNLV Lady Rebels. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. MT at the Miramont Lifestyle Fitness Club. Live stats can be found on GoWyo.com.
