LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 12, 2016) – The Wyoming
women’s basketball team will head out on the road for the first time this
season to visit the Michigan State Spartans. MSU
is currently receiving votes in the AP Poll while being ranked 22nd in the
Coaches' Poll. The game is set to
begin on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT at the Breslin Center in East Lansing. Live stats

Behind 18 points from sophomore Clara Tapia, the Cowgirl
basketball team (1-0 overall) earned a 24-point victory, 74-50, to open the
regular season against the Chadron State Eagles (0-1 overall) on Friday night.
Tapia recorded a career-high in points along with seven
assists in 25 minutes of play. She was 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-8 from
beyond the arc. Sophomore Rachelle Tucker came off the bench and had 11 points.
Junior Liv Roberts and senior Hailey Ligocki each added ten points, while sophomore
Marta Gomez recorded a game-high eight rebounds. Wyoming shot 27-of-63 (.429)
for the game and 13-of-33 (.875) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls also out
rebounded the Eagles, 38-33, and had 19 assists on 27 baskets.
The Spartans are
currently 1-0 overall after a 70-34 victory over Davidson on Friday night. The
team was led by Tori Jankoska who scored 26 points and eight rebounds in the
game. Taryn McCutcheon added 11 points and nine assists. As a squad, Michigan
State returns two starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 25-9
overall and 13-5 in the Big Ten a season ago. This is the first regular season
meeting between the two schools. The Spartans are coached by Suzy Merchant who
is in her 11th season with the program.
