LOGAN, Utah (AP) - The University of Wyoming football team suffered its second setback of the season Saturday, losing to Utah State 63-19 in Logan, Utah.

The Cowboys (3-2 overall) scored the first points of the game, but couldn't slow down Utah State (2-3 overall) on their home turf.

Cowboy quarterback Brett Smith had 265 yards passing, going 28-for-46 with one interception. Alvester Alexander led UW in rushing with 49 yards on six carries.

The scoring began in the first quarter when Smith led the Pokes on a 7-play, 77-yard drive to open the game, scoring the opening points on a 2-yard rush to make it 6-0, but the two-point conversion failed.

The next play featured a UW kickoff that Utah State fumbled, and Wyoming cornerback James Caraway made a heads-up play to recover the ball in Utah State's endzone for a touchdown. The PAT failed, and Wyoming led 12-0 with more than 12 minutes to go in the first quarter.

Utah State then got on the scoreboard, as Robert Turbin scored a rushing TD, and shortly thereafter, quarterback Chuckie Keeton threw a 53-yard TD pass to Michael Smith as the Aggies made it 14-12 Utah State with 6:48 left in the first quarter. Turbin then caught a 19-yard TD pass at the beginning of the second quarter to make it 21-12 Aggies.

Wyoming running back Brandon Miller narrowed the margin with 12:54 left in the second quarter with a 2-yard TD plunge after Wyoming took it 60 yards in five plays. The score after Miller's TD was 21-19 Utah State.

Keeton added another TD pass with less than 11 minutes left in the second quarter to make it 28-19 Utah State, and Utah State scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter. The Aggies took a 42-19 lead into halftime.
