LARAMIE, Wyoming (10/7/26) – The University of Wyoming soccer team needed a bounce back on Wednesday at the Madrid Sports Complex. The Cowgirls had their six-match win streak snapped last week, and they needed to shake that disappoint with an important three points at stake against San Jose State.
Head coach
Josh Purdum couldn't have been happier with how his team responded. The Pokes blanked the Spartans, 4-0, to improve to 9-3-0 on the season and 2-1-0 (6 points) in Mountain West Conference play.
"I'm pleased with the response," Purdum said. "You don't want to drop that last game, but I think you need those games as a reminder of what we are capable of. We are never perfect, so we have to address some things. We knew we'd come out with the energy. We had a great first save from Hobbs to keep them off the score sheet, and it was all downhill from there."
Part of that downhill ease for Wyoming was a goal from
Alyssa Glover. She cashed in on a penalty kick drawn by
Reese Gould in the 28th minute. It was Glover's 26th-career goal, which puts her alone in first in school history.
Isabel Vasco continued her strong play as a freshman. She registered her second brace of the season, and the first of those two scores occurred in the 11th minute. Vasco received a throw from Gould and found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the year.
Vasco's fifth goal of the season, her second on Wednesday, was the contest's final score. She fired one in off a pass from
Maddie Burr during the 59th minute.
Raegan Richardson laid claim to the Pokes' other goal. She knocked one home from distance in the 40th minute. It was her first score of the season, giving Wyoming 10 different goal scorers in 2026.
Goalkeeper,
Haley Bartel, made it all stand up. She logged her 25th career shutout, seventh this season, with three saves, one of which was the penalty kick save in the game's opening minute. She's now six clear of second place in clean sheets in program history.
The Cowgirls go back on the road this weekend. They travel to UNLV on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kick at Peter Johann Soccer Field.
