LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 9, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team (5-5 overall) dropped a tough contest, 6-1, against the Denver Pioneers (8-4 overall) on Friday afternoon.
 
"A big thank you to all the Cowgirl faithful that came and supported us today," head coach Dean Clower. "Magdalena had a huge win for us in singles defeating a nationally ranked player. In doubles, Tessa and Elisa keep playing better which should give us a boost later on in the season."

In doubles action, Denver earned the first point of the day by winning two out of three matches. Sophomore Milka Genkova and freshman Myiah Scott fell to Arisha Ladhani and Camille Verden-Anderson, 6-0, followed by Biana Mok and Hada Chang with a 6-4 victory over senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Ana Tkachenko. Juniors Tessa van Der Ploeg and Elisa Koonik were up 5-4 against Julia O'Loughlin and Gracia Mboko but didn't finish.
 
The Pioneers extended the lead to 3-0 in singles action. Mok beat Genkova in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Chang with a 6-2, 7-5 win over van Der Ploeg. In the match of the day, Stencel dropped the first set 6-2 against O'Loughlin, who is ranked 47^th in the country. She responded by taking the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3, to earn the victory. Verden-Anderson beat Koonik, 7-6, 7-5, while Ladhani won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, over Tkachenko. Scott dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match against Anna Riedmiller.  
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on Sunday against the Iowa State Cyclones. The match is set for 10 a.m. at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
