EL PASO, Texas (March 4, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team (5-4 overall) extended its win streak to three matches with a 4-1 victory over the UTEP Miners (4-6 overall) on Sunday morning.
 
"The ladies were good all weekend in doubles playing our style of tennis," head coach Dean Clower said. "In singles, I felt like we competed hard which is why we had the results we had. I can't say we were perfect at any time but we got after it at every position. The team will get a much needed day off and then we will clean up a few of our mistakes."
 
In doubles action, UW earned the first point of the day by winning two out of three matches. Juniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg defeated Raven Bennett and Lois Wagenvoort, 6-2 followed by sophomore Milka Genkova and freshman Myiah Scott with a 6-1 victory over Chloe Purkiss and Milena Baigorria. Senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Ana Tkachenko were up 5-2 but didn't finish.
 
UTEP earned its first point of the day with Purkiss winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over Scott. Wyoming responded by taking the next three matches in order to gain the victory. Stencel defeated Wagenvoort, 6-3, 6-1, followed by van Der Ploeg, 6-4, 6-2 over Yvette Van Oijen. Genkova defeated Erandi Martinez to clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on Friday to host the Denver Pioneers. The match is set for 2 p.m. at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
