LARAMIE, Wyo. (March 23, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team (7-5 overall) cruised to a 6-1 win over the Weber State Wildcats (6-7 overall) on Friday morning in Laramie.
 
"The ladies played structured and put everything we practiced this week in to play," head coach Dean Clower said. "We were aggressive when give the opportunity and disciplined when needed."
 
In doubles action, the Cowgirls earned the first point of the day by winning two out of three matches. Senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Milka Genkova made easy work of their match with a 6-0 win over Emily Tanner and McKenna Lloyd. At the number three spot, sophomore Ana Tkachenko and freshman Myiah Scott defeated Dominique Beauvais and Morgan Dickason, 6-1, while juniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg were up 4-1 over Caitlin Herb and Pei_Hsuan Kuo and didn't finish.
 
Wyoming continued its momentum over in to singles action by winning the next five straight. van Der Ploeg defeated Tereza Pilzova, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Stencel with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Kuo. At the number two position, Genkova won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, over Herb to clinch the match for the Cowgirls. Koonik needed three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4), against Beauvais, while Tkachenko beat Dickason, 6-3, 6-2. Lloyd won the lone match of the day for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Scott.
 
The Cowgirls will return to action on Sunday against the Creighton Bluejays. The match is set for 10 a.m. at the UW Indoor Tennis Courts.
