LINCOLN, Neb. (Feb. 16, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team (2-2 overall) opened up the weekend with a 4-0 loss against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-2 overall) on Friday night.

"Magdalena (Stencel) is on a roll and feeling her game. She is tough as nails and is a good example for her teammates when it comes to competing in a match," head coach Dean Clower said. "Tessa (van Der Ploeg) held her own, kept the pressure on and played her game. Elisa (Koonik) was right there with her teammates, was in the match and ready to play hard until the end."

The Cornhuskers jumped out early to an early 1-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomore Milka Genkova and freshman Myiah Scott lost to Katerina Matysova and Vansanti Shinde, 6-2, while juniors Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg dropped their match, 6-3 against Paula De Cueto Castillo and Brianna Lashway. The number two team of senior Magdalena Stencel and sophomore Ana Tkachenko were downed by Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad, 6-3.

Nebraska carried the momentum over in to singles action. Jeannie Lozowski didn't drop a game against Scott, 6-0, 6-0, while Del Cueto Castillo defeated Tkachenkko, 6-1, 6-2. The Cornhuskers clinched the match at the number four spot with Reifeis defeating Genkova, 6-3, 6-0. Stencel was up 7-5, 1-1 over Lashway, Shinde was ahead, 7-5, 3-2, over van Der Ploeg and Koonik was down 6-3, 1-3 against Matysova but didn't finish.

The Cowgirls will return to the courts tomorrow morning against the Wichita State Shockers. The match is set for 10 a.m. MT at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Complex in Lincoln, Neb.
