– The Wyoming Cowgirls cross country team will join a field of 11 other Division I teams at the Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan co-hosted Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational this weekend. It is the first race for the Cowgirls following two weeks of training after the Wyoming Invite.
"It's going to be a good meet for them," associate head coach Amanda Clower
said. "We'll get to compete against teams we don't normally get too see. Again, we're going to have the goal of staying together as close as you can for as long as you can, and seeing how we place that way."
At the Wyoming Invite, a season-opening "rust buster" in Cheyenne, the Cowgirls were led by freshman Katelyn Mitchem
, who finished first for the Brown and Gold and sixth overall in her collegiate debut. Juniors Ashley Bock
and Kacey Doner
rounded out UW's top-25 overall finishers, completing the five-kilometer course in 18th
"We've put in a lot of miles these last two weeks," Doner said. "We have tired legs, but we'll be able to push through during the race."
In addition to Mitchem, Bock and Doner, seniors Emily Person
, Regan VanDePol
and Kiah Leonard
are scheduled to compete, as are freshmen Kaylee Bentley
, Addi Iken
and Victoria Tenpenny
Complete results will be posted following the race.
