Cowgirl Tennis Completes Play at Jon Messick Invite

UW will return to action on Wednesday

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Oct. 6, 2018) – The Wyoming tennis team closed out its weekend on Saturday at the Jon Messick Invite.

"This was a good tune up tournament especially for all of our freshmen," head coach Dean Clower said. "If we keep competing and learning the way we have been it will translate well to the spring. The team isn't afraid to play out of their comfort zone in order to get better. We will go over things this week and be ready for regionals."

In singles action, freshman Maria Oreshkina went 2-0 on the day. She defeated Natalie Stanton, 6-1, followed by a 7-6 (6), 1-6, 7-5 win over Emily Luetschwager. Junior Ana Royo was the other Cowgirl in action that won in singles play. She defeated Riley Reeves, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Mihaela Kaftanova dropped a 6-4, 7-6 (5) match against Stella Cliffe, while Ana Fernandez lost to Priscilla Palmero. The final Cowgirl in action freshman Ida Krause dropped a three set match, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, against Emma Corwin.

Both doubles teams earned victories on the day. Kaftanova and Krause beat Mora and Doherty, 6-1, while Royo and Fernandez beat Synclair Larson and Sarina Chhabra, 6-2.

Wyoming tennis will resume action next week at the ITA Mountain Regional Tournament. It is set to begin on Wednesday in Las Vegas.
