Cowboy Wrestlers Open Homestand against Northern Colorado

After a brief road trip, the University of Wyoming wrestling team returns home to face Northern Colorado in a Big 12 dual in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Saturday. The Cowboys wrapped up their road schedule last weekend and will close out their schedule at home for the first time since 2012-13.

A Look at Wyoming
A trio of Cowboys find themselves in the national rankings. Junior Drew Templeman is ranked 15th by Intermat Wrestling. Templeman is also ranked 16th by FloWrestling and 15th by Amateur Wrestling News. Sophomore Bryce Meredith is ranked 15th by Intermat Wrestling and ranked 13th by Flowrestling. He is ranked 13th by Amateur Wrestling News. Senior heavyweight Tanner Harms is ranked 19th by Intermat Wrestling. Harms moved into the FloWrestling rankings at 20th and also ranks 20th by Amateur Wrestling News.
The Cowboy duo at 165 pounds has been getting technical falls all season long as sophomore Chaz Polson and Kyle Pope have combined for 13 this season. The two have identical records on the season with both sporting a 16-11 mark. Polson has a team-high eight tech falls on the season with Pope having five on the season ranking second on the team. Pope has won his last two matches by technical fall and the duo has won three matches in a row in the last three duals by technical fall. Polson's eight technical falls are the most by a Cowboy since Alfonzo Hernandez had nine in 2012-13.
A Look at Northern Colorado
The Bears head into Saturday night with a 3-5 overall record and a 0-3 mark in the Big 12. Northern Colorado's top wrestler is 197-pounder Trent Noon, as he is No. 20 in the nation with an impressive 20-6 mark. Another wrestler to watch for the Bears is 157 pounder Eleazar De Luca, as De Luca heads into the weekend with a 13-3 record. The Bears were in action last weekend on the road downing Boise State 22-15 and falling to Oregon State 35-6.
Series History against Northern Colorado
The Cowboys lead the all-time series against the Bears 49-29-1 in a series that dates back to 1932. The Cowboys have won 21-straight duals against the Bears and are 7-0 all-time under head coach Mark Branch. The Cowboys defeated the Bears 26-9 in the regular season finale last season. UW took seven of the 10 matches on the afternoon in Greeley. The Cowboys defeated Northern Colorado 41-6 in the team's last meeting in the UniWyo Sports Complex during the 2013-14 season. That win was propelled by six wins with bonus points with four coming via pin.
He Said It
"It is nice to be home and focus and gear up for the postseason," UW head coach Mark Branch said. "It is obviously great to wrestle in front of the home crowd, but it is nice having a set training schedule without having to travel."
"This weekend will be interesting and seeing a team that will match up well against us," Branch said. "Every dual this season has been a tough matchup and this will be not different we will have to wrestle well. We are trying to find consistency and if we go out and be aggressive we will do well."
