Cowgirls Sweep Weekly Swimming and Diving Honors
Jan. 12, 2016
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl swimming and diving team swept the Mountain West Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors on Monday, announced by the conference office. Senior Kari Campbell was named the Diver of the Week, while sophomore Maria Harutjunjan was named Swimmer of the Week.
It marks the first honor for both Campbell and Harutjunjan and also the first time the Cowgirls have swept the weekly awards since Morgan Hartigan and Amanda Fay did so on January 29, 2014.
Campbell, a native of Laramie, Wyo., is a two-time All-MW honoree and has twice qualified for the NCAA Zone “E” Diving Championships. This past weekend against No. 28 Denver, the senior won both the 1 and 3-meter diving events for the Cowgirls. Both scores were season-bests for Campbell as she recorded a 286.80 on the 1-meter and also earned a MW top-five score in the 3-meter event with 307.73. Her score in the 3-meter was also an NCAA Zone qualifying mark.
Harutjunjan, a sophomore from Maardu, Estonia, was a member of the 400 medley relay team that brought home a victory against the Pioneers. She also won the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.76, before taking second in the 200 breast event. Harutjunjan was the MW champ in the 100 breast as a freshman, in addition to earning All-MW honors in the 200 breast and 400 medley relay. She then went on to compete in the World University Games this past summer.
