Wyoming's Nance Invited to Nike Big Man Camp

June 19, 2014

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming's Larry Nance Jr. has been invited to the prestigious Nike Big Man Skills Academy in Union, N.J., on June 23-25. Due to an ACL injury in February, Nance will be unable to compete in drills but will be on hand to observe and learn.

"To be invited to this event is an honor for me and the entire Wyoming team," Nance said. "This will include some of the best big men in the country and I obviously couldn't have been invited without the help of my teammates, so I thank them for that. I'm really looking forward to just watching, listening and learning from the coaches and players. I've been taught certain skills and techniques for three years, but if I can incorporate some of the things that are included at this camp, that could help take me to the next level."

The senior-to-be forward was invited to the camp after a junior season in which he garnered All-Mountain West First Team and All-Defensive Team honors. At the time of his injury, he ranked 10th in the MW in points at 15.4 per game, fifth with 8.6 rebounds, second at 54 percent from the field, sixth with 1.4 steals and fourth at 2.1 blocks. He led the Cowboys in each of those categories.

According to the Nike Elite Youth Basketball's website, the Big Man Skills Academy will feature NBA superstars Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins instructing up-and-coming high school and collegiate players from around the country. Over the course of two and a half days, players will have the opportunity to hone their skills at their respective positions while being tutored by not only current NBA players, but NBA coaches as well. The top 20 high school and top 10 collegiate big men are extended invitations.

Last year's participants included Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein, Oregon's Mike Moser and Arizona's Brandon Ashley.
