Lindell and Barrie Sign with Wyoming Golf

July 16, 2013

LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming golf program announced the addition of two student-athletes to the class of 2013-14 on Tuesday. Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen signed Cameron Lindell, while Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender welcomed Mackenzie Barrie.

Cameron Lindell, Sheridan, Wyo., Tyler Junior College
A native of Sheridan, Wyo., Cameron Lindell has been one of the top golfers the past two seasons for coach Sandy Terry at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. In his career, he averaged 75.39 strokes in 51 rounds. As a sophomore in 2012-13, Lindell posted a team-low 75.48 strokes per round, including a career-low 68. He helped the Apaches finish ninth as a team at the NJCAA National Championship, as he won two individual tournament titles during the season. During his freshman season in 2011-12, he shot 75.31 strokes per round, as Tyler finished second in the team standings at the NJCAA National Championship. He was named to the Ping All-American Second Team and the GCAA All-Freshman Team. He was a two-time all-region honoree at Tyler.

Lindell was part of a successful program at Sheridan High School under Larry Martoglio and Jim Friesen. Playing alongside current Cowboy Kamrin Allen, Lindell was all-conference four years and all-state twice, including winning both individual titles as a freshman. As a team, Sheridan won three conference titles and two state titles with Lindell. He was also a member of the 2008-09 America's Cup Team.

Cameron is the son of Dawn Lindell and has one sister, Hilary.

Jensen on Lindell: "Cameron was a good player coming out of high school, but he really took advantage of playing at the junior college level. He won several tournaments, was named an All-American and became a highly recruited athlete. He matured and committed himself to the game in a very good situation. Returning to his home state, he knows what to expect so he will fit in with our program very well."

Mackenzie Barrie, Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, W.L. Seaton Secondary School
The second Canadian on the current Cowgirl roster, Mackenzie Barrie posted a standout summer of golf in 2012 with a scoring average of 76.2 strokes. She tied for 31st at 316 (+12) at the British Columbia Women's Amateur Championship, before going on to place 12th at the British Columbia Junior Girls Championship at 309 (+9). She also placed second at her Zone Championship. Barrie was a member of the British Columbia team in the North Pacific Team Matches in 2013. In the classroom, she was a member of the Honor Roll all four years and graduated with a 3.94 grade-point average. As a senior, she was named the Athlete of the Year and Top All-Round Student.

Mackenzie is the daughter of Jamie and Tracey Barrie and has one brother, Conor.

Stender on Barrie: "We are very happy with the quality of athlete and student that we are getting with Mackenzie. She played hockey most of her life and is fairly new to the national golf scene, but has made an impact in just a few summers. That's a good indicator that her athleticism will help her transition to the collegiate game. She hits it long and that is something you can't teach, so that will be a big advantage for her. She has a great temperament about herself and keeps the game in perspective, which can be attributed to her great background in sports. She is very goal oriented and knows what she wants, but is also very coachable."

Lindell and Barrie join Ryan Wallen (Blaine, Wash.), Gabrielle Gibson (Temecula, Calif.) and Taylor Dorans (Erie, Colo.), who signed with Wyoming golf last fall.
