Yerty Adds Dan Georgalas To Volleyball Staff

Feb. 15, 2013

University of Wyoming head volleyball coach Carrie Yerty announced today the hiring of Dan Georgalas as an assistant coach with the Cowgirl volleyball program. He replaces Vilis Ozols who became the head coach at Niagara University.

"We are all very excited to welcome Dan Georgalas into our Cowgirl Volleyball family," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "He will work primarily with the Cowgirl liberos and will focus on improving our team defense. He will also assist in all phases of recruiting and will serve as our video director and coordinator. Dan is very passionate about coaching and is eager to experience Mountain West Volleyball."

Georgalas comes to Wyoming from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas where he spent the last two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the women's volleyball program. While there, he was involved in the on-court training with the middle blockers, outside hitters and passers, plus played a large role in the recruiting process for the Ladyjacks.

Prior to that, he was involved in several aspects of the volleyball program at the University of Kansas. He served as a volunteer assistant coach, which included assisting with on-court training and coordinating team travel. He was also a camp director for the KU summer camps. During that time, Georgalas was the director of the Jayhawk Juniors Volleyball Club, which offered clinics for Lawrence-area youth, and coached for the Lawrence Juniors Volleyball Club.

A native of Chicago, Ill., Georgalas began playing his senior year of high school and earned a starting position at middle hitter halfway through the season. His state-ranked Buffalo Grove High School team finished 30-7 overall and fourth in the state while Georgalas was voted the Most Improved Player.

He went onto to start for the KU men's club volleyball team for two seasons and helped the Jayhawks qualify for the NIRSA National Tournament in the spring 2010.

Georgalas graduated from Kansas in December 2010 with a degree in sports management and a minor in business.
