Cowgirls Set For Third-Consecutive Home Match

After two home conference matches in three days, the Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team (12-5 overall, 1-2 Mountain West) is faced with a quick turnaround hosting non-conference foe Colorado State-Pueblo (11-5 overall, 2-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) on Monday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. MT in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowgirls posted a 1-1 record over the weekend defeating Nevada on Saturday, in five sets and falling to San Diego State on Thursday, in five sets.
A statistical look at the Cowgirls:Leading the Cowgirls over the weekend was senior outside hitter Jodi Purdy who recorded two double-doubles. Saturday evening against Nevada, she recorded a season-high 22 kills and 17 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. On Thursday, against the Aztecs she recorded 14 kills and 10 digs. Purdy is currently second in the conference in service aces with 22 and is averaging 0.35 per set. In points per set, Purdy is third in the conference with a 3.97 average. She is also in the top 10 in kills per set averaging 3.21, which is seventh best in the conference. Junior libero Becky Stewart is currently leading the MW averaging 4.89 digs per set with 303 total. Cowgirl Reese Plante is second the MW in hitting percentage with an average of .341 (120-219-267). Sophomore Erin Kirby is also hitting .300 plus, averaging .326 (99-29-215) which is sixth in the MW. Kirby and Plante also rank fourth and sixth, respectively in the MW in blocks. Kirby is fourth with 80 total to average 1.33 per set. Plante is sixth with 71 total blocks and an average of 1.15 per set. Junior setter Rachel Keyes is currently eighth in the MW in assists averaging 5.59 per set with 341 total on the season. As a team, the Cowgirls lead the MW in opponent hitting percentage allowing a .129 percentage. The Cowgirls are also second in blocks with 171 total (2.77 per set).They are third in the conference in service aces with 85 total averaging 1.37 per set.
A statistical look at the Thunderwolves: Colorado State-Pueblo enters the match with an 11-5 overall record and 2-4 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Thunderwolves are 2-1 in their last three matches falling in their last match to Western New Mexico, 3-1. Senior middle blocker Angela McAdams leads the Thunderwolves scoring averaging 4.1 points per set and 3.33 kills per set. Junior middle Brianna Bryant is second in points per set averaging 3.1 and averaging 2.44 kills per set. Setting up the CSUP offense is junior Kacy Griffin who is averaging 9.94 assists per set with 626 total on the season. Freshman setter Jordan Bruere has also played for the Thunderwolves averaging 3.43 assists per set. Leading the defense for the Thunderwolves is libero Michelle Larnbayan who is averaging 4.03 digs per set. With an average of 1.17 blocks per set junior right side Aislyn Karney is leading CSUP in blocks. Monday's meeting with be the first ever between the Cowgirls and the Thunderwolves. CSUP is led by second-year head coach Jen Gomez.
