July 17, 2012
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming senior center Nick Carlson was named to his second preseason watch list of the year when he was selected to the 2012 Rotary Lombardi Watch List on Monday. The Rotary Lombardi Award honors the top lineman in the Football Bowl Subdivision at the conclusion of each season.
This is the first time in Carlson's career that he has been named to the Rotary Lombardi list. He was earlier selected to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, which honors the nation's top center.
Players eligible for the Rotary Lombardi Award are linemen on offense and defense who line up no farther than 10 yards from the ball and linebackers who line up no farther than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
From Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 20, the National Collegiate Football Awards Association (NCFAA) will be releasing their preseason watch lists for the upcoming 2012 season. On Monday, the Rotary Lombardi Committee announced its list of outstanding candidates.
Carlson earned Second Team All-Mountain West honors as a junior in 2011. He helped lead Wyoming to an 8-5 record, third-place finish in the Mountain West and a bid in the 2011 Gildan New Mexico Bowl. The senior from Arlington Heights, Ill., led an offensive line that allowed only 12 quarterback sacks in 13 games in 2011 to rank No. 11 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed. He also was a key contributor in Wyoming averaging 181.6 rushing yards per game to rank No. 33 in the nation.
Carlson will enter his senior season having started 33 of 34 career games, including the last 25 consecutive. This past spring, he was selected as one of four team captains for the 2012 Wyoming Cowboys. An outstanding student, he has earned Academic All-Conference honors twice during his career.
