Cowgirl Volleyball Falls at No. 24 CSU

The University of Wyoming volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to No. 24 Colorado State on Friday night at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo. The Cowgirls dropped to 18-10 overall and 7-5 in the Mountain West, while the Rams improved to 18-4 and 11-1 in the conference.

Sophomore Reese Plante paced the Cowgirls with six kills, as she hit .200 (6-3-15). Senior Tamara Kitic and junior Jodi Purdy both added three kills apiece. Junior Camille Coffman had four blocks and sophomore Rachel Keyes had 10 assists. As a team, UW finished with 19 digs and 12 total blocks.

CSU was led by Katelyn Steffan with 14 kills, hitting .231 (14-8-26) for the match, while Dana Cranston contributed nine kills. Megan Plourde notched seven blocks and Deedra Foss had 30 assists. The Rams hit .221 (40-21-86) for the match.

Colorado State started the first set with a 13-2 run, but the Cowgirls hung within 10 points in the middle of the set. A late UW surge forced a Ram timeout, but CSU held on for the 25-13 win. The Rams continued their momentum to start the second set by jumping out to an 8-0 advantage and maintained a double-digit lead en route to another 25-13 victory.

Despite being down 2-0, the Cowgirls battled hard throughout the third set. UW held an early lead, before CSU asserted its will again to build a five-point advantage. Wyoming battled back to within one at 10-9 and again to two at 22-20, but the Rams held on for the 25-21 win to seal the sweep.

UW closes out the regular conference season next week on the road. They will head to Albuquerque, N.M., to face New Mexico on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m., and the TCU Frogs, on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Ft. Worth.
