Wyoming Cowboy golfer Gabe Maier concluded his first round and played his second round on Friday of the 2011 NCAA Regional Golf Championship in Erie, Colo. Maier concluded his rain shortened first round on Friday morning with a one-over 73 which put him in a tie for 36th place. He also played his second round on Friday afternoon making a run at the leaders after shooting a four-under 68 which tied him for 11th place.
"Gabe played really well today," Wyoming Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. "He has handled the stops and the starts well these last couple days. I think what really helped him today was he was patient. He started with a string of pars and just let his game come to him. He is in position to make a run at the leaderboard tomorrow. I just want him to go out and play solid tomorrow."
After rain and lighting shortened his day on Thursday, Cowboy Gabe Maier completed his first round of play this morning. He began his day on the 13th green at one-over par and completed his round without gaining or losing a stroke finishing the first round with a 73 (+1) which tied him for 36th place. Maier began his second round at 12:20 on hole 10 and had an up-and-down first nine, but was able to turn it on during his second nine. Maier shot a four-under on his second nine to give him a score of 68 (-4) for the round. With his score of 141 (-3) Maier currently sits in a tie for 11th place
No. 1 Oklahoma State and day-one leader lengthened the gap between itself and the 13-team field on Friday after shooting a 13-under par 275 as a team, giving them a two-round total of 551 (-25). Trailing the Cowboys is: Auburn in second (567, -9), Georgia and Clemson tied for third (570, -6) and TCU in fifth (571, -5).
Three players are tied atop the leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 137 (-7) including Georgia's T.J. Mitchell and Oklahoma State's Sean Einhaus and Kevin Tway. Rounding out the top five are Auburn's Niclas Carlsson and Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein who sit in a tie for fourth place with a two-round total of 138 (-6).
Maier will conclude his play at the NCAA Regional on Saturday. His tee time is yet to be determined.
