Cowgirl Basketball to Host Falcons in Last Home Game

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will play the final home Mountain West Conference game of the season as they host the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday, February 28. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m. It will be the last home contest for seniors Elisabeth Dissen, Megan McGuffey and Rebecca Vanderjagt.

The Cowgirls will enter this game with a 14-12 overall record and 6-7 in MWC play after earning the season sweep over the Colorado State Rams on Wednesday night with a 71-62 victory. Sophomore Hillary Carlson led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Emma Langford chipped in a team leading 17 points and six rebounds.

Four Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures this season led by sophomore Hillary Carlson who is averaging 11.7 points, while freshman guard Emma Langford is adding 10.5 points per game. Freshmen Kristen Scheffler and senior Megan McGuffey follow closely with 10.4 and 10.3 points respectively. McGuffey also leads the team with 6.5 rebounds per contest.

Carlson ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage and 11th in scoring, while Scheffler leads the league in three-point field goals made (2.38 tpfgm) and 19th in scoring. McGuffey ranks ninth in rebounding and 20th in scoring.

In conference games, Carlson is third in scoring (15.5 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (65-133, .489) and eighth in rebounding. Scheffler is third in three-point field goals made, fourth in minutes played, while being 14th in scoring (10.5 ppg).

Air Force comes into the game with a 4-22 overall mark and a 0-13 record in the MWC this season. Raimee Beck leads the way with 12.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, while Brooke Cultra is adding 11.5 points and 6.2 rebounds.

They return three starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 10-19 overall and 4-12 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 35th meeting between the two teams. Wyoming leads the series 32-2. The last time the two teams met was January 28, 2009 as the Cowgirls defeated Air Force, 52-41, in Colorado Springs. The Falcons are coached by Ardie McInelly who is in her eighth season with the program and her 13th overall.
