Lobos to Visit Laramie as UW and UNM Clash on Wednesday

The Wyoming Cowgirl Basketball team will close out the first half of the MWC season on Wednesday, Feb. 4, as they host the New Mexico Lobos. The game time is set for 7 p.m. in the Arena Auditorium.

The Cowgirls will enter this game with a 10-10 overall record and 2-4 in Mountain West Conference play after a 58-45 loss against BYU on Saturday afternoon. Senior Elisabeth Dissen recorded a team high nine points and five rebounds, while Hillary Carlson and Kristen Scheffler each added seven points.

Four Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far this season led by senior Megan McGuffey and freshman Kristen Scheffler with 11.0 points per game. Hillary Carlson is averaging 10.7 points and Emma Langford with 10.1 points per game. McGuffey also leads the way with 6.0 rebounds per contest.

McGuffey ranks 13th in rebounding and 15th in scoring in the league, while Scheffler leads the league in three-point field goals made (2.65 tpfgm), while being ranked 16th in scoring. Carlson continues to make a mark as she is fourth in field goal percentage and 19th in scoring.

New Mexico comes into the game with a 16-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the MWC this season. Amy Beggin leads the way with 15.5 points and five rebounds, while Angela Hartill is adding 11.8 points and five boards.

They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 20-13 overall and 9-7 in the MWC a year ago. This is the 56th meeting between the two teams. UNM leads the series 32-23. The last time the two teams met was February 10, 2008 as the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 70-55, in Laramie. New Mexico is coached by Don Flanagan who is in his 14th season with the program.
