For the second consecutive season and for the fifth time in the eight years of the Mountain West Conference Tournament, the University of Wyoming Cowboys will be a semifinal participant in the league championship. The Cowboys (17-14, 7-9 in the MWC) will square off with the BYU Cougars (24-7, 13-3 in the MWC) tonight at 7 p.m. MST in Las Vegas, Nev. at the Thomas and Mack Center. The game will be televised live on CSTV.

BYU advanced to the championship semifinals by defeating TCU, 77-64 on Thursday, while Wyoming knocked off Air Force, 67-62.

It seems odd, but the Wyoming Cowboys and BYU Cougars will be playing eachother for only the third time in a conference tournament game. The two have been playing in the same conference tournament since 1984 -- 24 consecutive seasons -- but have met only two previous times. Wyoming trails 0-2 in conference tournament meetings against the Cougars. In 2001 the No. 3 seeded Cowboys lost to the No. 2 seeded Cougars, 66-77 in the semifinal round. In 2004 No. 7 Wyoming lost to No. 2 BYU, 74-79 in the quarterfinal round.

Friday night's game will be broadcast on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboys Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. MST.

The Cowboys have won three of their last four games in the MWC Tournament. UW's only loss in those last four tournament games was in last year's MWC Championship game to San Diego State by a score of 64-69 in one overtime.

Wyoming was without center Daaron Brown in the meeting with BYU in Laramie on Feb. 6, 2007. Brown was out with an ankle injury in that second meeting, and yet Wyoming lost by only four points 73-77 in Laramie. In the first meeting in Provo, Brown scored 22 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in an 81-89 loss on Jan. 16, 2007.
