Ninety-Eighth Edition of the 'Border War' to be Televised Nationally by CSTV

Oct. 3, 2006

The Mountain West Conference and College Sports Television (CSTV) announced on Tuesday that the 98th Edition of the "Border War" between the Wyoming Cowboys and Colorado State Rams will be televised nationally by CSTV on Saturday, Oct. 21.

Kickoff for this year's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Mountain Time from Wyoming's War Memorial Stadium. The last time the two teams met in War Memorial Stadium was in 2003 when the Cowboys defeated the Rams 35-28.

This year's game will not only be the 98th overall meeting in the series, but it will mark the 107th anniversary of the first "Border War" game back on Nov. 30, 1899.

The 2006 meeting will celebrate the 61st consecutive year the two teams have met. The last interruption in the series came during World War II when the two teams didn't play in 1943, `44 or `45. In 1946, the series was renewed, and it has been played every year since.

The "Border War" is the longest standing rivalry for both Wyoming and Colorado State.

In 1968 another tradition was added to the rivalry -- the Bronze Boot. The Bronze Boot was a tradition introduced by the ROTC detachments of the respective schools as a traveling trophy awarded to the winner each year. The "Boot" was originally worn in Vietnam by a CSU alumnus. The two teams will be playing for the Bronze Boot for the 39th time in history this year. How close has the Bronze Boot series been? The Bronze Boot portion of the series is currently tied, with both teams having won 19 times since 1968.
