The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team (7-4 overall, 1-1 in the MWC) suffered a disappointing five game loss (30-24, 30-25, 23-30, 18-30, 8-15) against the TCU Horned Frogs (12-2 overall, 1-0 in the MWC) on Saturday afternoon in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Three Cowgirls finished the match with double-figures including freshman Annie Meyers. She recorded 15 kills along with 14 digs. Outside hitter Rachel Smith had 13 kills followed by Angie Hellbaum with ten. Meyers and Tasha Weishahn had 14 digs, while Samantha Eley had 12 and Carissa Lee had ten. As a team, the Cowgirls hit .173 (54-25-168) along with 69 digs and five total team blocks.

TCU was led by Ann Vaughn who had 16 kills while hitting .289 (16-5-38) for the match. Emily Allen and LeMeita Smith both had 13 kills and one other player had 12. The Horned Frogs hit .293 (69-20-167) for the match and had 14 total team blocks.

"It was a tale of two matches," said head coach Pat Stangle. "It was really good though the first two games. We made all the plays and did what we needed to do. Unfortunately, it wasn't the case in the next three games. We really struggled and just made too many errors."

The Cowgirls fell behind early in game one, 4-1. TCU extended their lead with a 5-1 scoring run to go up 9-2. Wyoming finally broke through and scored five of seven to pull within four, 11-7. The Horned Frogs would get the lead back up to five, 13-8, but two straight by Wyoming made it 13-10. A small run by TCU game them a 16-11 advantage. Wyoming continued to battle and scored six of seven to even it up at 17. They would quickly take the lead by scoring five of six to take a four point lead 22-18. The Horned Frogs brought the score to within two, 22-20, but the Cowgirls would close it out on an 8-4 run to win the game 30-24.

It was very close in the early going of the second game as neither team took a significant lead. With it all tied up at 11, TCU scored six of ten to take a 17-15 lead. Wyoming quickly evened it up at 17, but the Horned Frogs scored two quick points to go up 19-17. The Cowgirls responded with a 5-3 run to even it up at 22 all. From that point Wyoming scored the next 8 of 11 to win the game 30-25 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

TCU stormed out in the third game and took an 8-2 lead. The Cowgirls responded with a 7-5 run to pull within four, 13-9. The Horned Frogs had other ideas as they scored the next 8 of 13 to open up a seven point lead, 21-14. Wyoming battled back as they scored five straight points to pull within two, 21- 19. Unfortunately that would be as close as they would get as TCU went on to win the game 30-23.

Wyoming really struggled in the fourth game as the Horned Frogs went up by a score of 10-4. In fact, TCU not only held on to the lead but increased it to double figures. They would take the game 30-18 in order to force a fifth game.

It was never close in the fifth and deciding game as TCU opened up an 8-2 to lead at the change over. They extended the lead to 12-4 and it was never close after that the Frogs would win the game 15-8 and the match 3-2.

The Cowgirls will play one match next week as they travel to Denver to take on the Denver Pioneers, on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m.
